Content

Since 1972, Division TEACCH has coordinated the nation’s largest statewide public based educational and treatment programs for children with autism and related communication handicaps.With current practices emphasizing least restrictive settings, many more children with autism and other severe behavior, learning and communication problems are being served in public schools, thus creating a need for in-service training activities for teachers.In recent years, TEACCH has made its training activities available to teachers and other professionals from around the world.

Objectives

This course is designed to:

  • Provide advanced training for professionals who have completed the basic 5 day TEACCH Training.
  • Build competence in screening and identification of people with autism and related disorders
  • Develop presentation skills in explaining intervention methods
  • Foster team-building skills in developing collaborative efforts in expanding and implementing autism services
  • Enrich consultation skills in assessing and advising professionals about program development
  • Develop direct service skills for the full range of persons with autism and related disorders

Continuing Education Credits

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been authorized by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to award Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs will be available to those participants attending all scheduled activities. Your tuition will cover the cost of the CEUs. Licensing boards, certifiying bodies, and regulatory agencies may differ in the way they recognize the CEU in fulfilling necessary professional credit. Participants should contact their local licensing boards to determine the appropriateness of CEUs toward re-certification credits.

Selection

Space is limited.  Applications must be received by July 18, 2008 .  Admission is made on a first-come, first-served basisTuition is $775.00.    This fee includes all course materials, dinner Monday, and lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Checks should be made payable to “UNC - Division TEACCH.”

Cost

Tuition cost for training is $775.

This fee does not include travel, meals, or accommodations, however, it does include all course materials, dinner on Monday, and lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Information

Chapel Hill is accessible via Interstate Highways I-40 and I-85. A map will be included with your acceptance materials. Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) serves Chapel Hill and is located about fifteen miles away. Ground transportation is available at the airport.

Accommodations

Participants are responsible for making their own reservations directly with the hotel of their choice. When making reservations, you must identify yourself as a “TEACCH Training participant” in order to obtain the special rate. Special TEACCH Training rates are available at the following local hotels:
