Content
Division TEACCH’s approach to working with people with ASD is to understand the differences in thinking and learning characteristics of this group and to develop intervention approaches that are complementary with these differences. Inherent in these ideas is a respect for these differences and an effort to maximize their potentially positive impact. Strategies resulting from this approach tend to concentrate on more positive ways of thinking about differences and approaching our work to help people with ASD and their families. This presentation will review some of the most positive approaches with suggestions for helping people with ASD to find more meaning in their day-to-day activities and to improve the quality of their lives.
Objectives
To learn to understand and respect various aspects of ASD in order to more effectively interact with people on the autism spectrum.
To develop a deeper appreciation of how to use this knowledge to help people with ASD to improve the quality of their lives.
