TEACCH Autism Program Receives $56,000 Grant

from CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust

The TEACCH Autism Program received a $56,000 grant this year from the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation.  This grant was given to expand TEACCH's community-based early intervention educational program, “TEACCHing at Home,” to preschoolers with autism and their families in the Asheville TEACCH and Wilmington TEACCH service areas.

Dr. Gary Mesibov, director of TEACCH, said that the TEACCH Program is very pleased to be partnering with the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust in 2007 to extend its early intervention services to more areas of North Carolina.  As one of the TEACCHing at Home parents has said, "The impact this program has had upon our family is exceptional; it is difficult for me to imagine that there are families in our state for whom this program...is simply out of reach."

“CVS strongly believes in giving back to the communities where we live and work,” said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust.  “Grants from the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust are an effective way for us to support the extraordinary work done by community organizations to help children with disabilities and their families and to promote health, wellness and education.  We are proud to support the work that TEACCH does in the community to give children and families with autism a better life.”

The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust’s grant to TEACCH is part of its more than $5 million in grants to non-profit organizations across 22 states.  Organizations that were selected to receive a grant were chosen through the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust’s 2006 grant application process. Grants were awarded to organizations involved in children’s health and education issues, with a particular focus on initiatives to improve the lives of children with disabilities and programs that promote awareness and inclusion of children with disabilities.
