Target Audience

This training is being offered to provide visual strategies for working with students with autism spectrum disorder to NC classroom teachers, particularly those within the north central region of the state.  Once teachers in this region have attended a training they can request consultation from our training staff as they try to implement these procedures.

Content

We will offer opportunities to complete hands-on activities for children with autism spectrum disorder who will be described in scenarios.  These activities will help participants to apply the lecture materials.  See enclosed schedule.

Objectives

To help teachers and other professionals new to the TEACCH philosophy learn some of the basic TEACCH principles in order to begin implementing them.

To provide an opportunity for teachers and other professionals to learn the “TEACCH language” and have a forum to talk about changes that may help to make TEACCH principles that they may already be using more effective.

To help network motivated “structured teaching users” for mutual support, exchange of practical ideas, and inspiration, both with Greensboro TEACCH staff as well as with each other.

Continuing Education Credits

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been authorized to award Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs will be available to those participants attending all scheduled activities. Your tuition will cover the cost of the CEUs. Licensing boards, certifying bodies and regulatory agencies may differ in the way they recognize the CEU in fulfilling necessary professional credit. Participants should contact their local licensing boards to determine the appropriateness of CEUs toward recertification credits.
