Agenda

As more students with autism enter our educational system there is an increased need for teachers to understand the unique learning needs of this student population.  The Fundamentals of Structured Teaching 2 Day workshop is designed to help teachers individualize teaching strategies for students across the autism spectrum.  Training participants will have an opportunity to develop strategies for actual students and then observe the students "at work".

Content

Since 1972, Division TEACCH has coordinated the nation's largest statewide education and treatment program for children and adults with autism and related communication handicaps. With IDEA '97 (Individuals with Disabilities

Education Act Amendments of 1997) emphasizing least restrictive settings, more people with autism and other severe behavior, learning and communication disorders are being served in an array of school and community settings. This has increased the need for comprehensive in-service training. Division TEACCH, a division of the Medical School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, provides training programs to teachers and other professionals from around the world.
