Content
Since 1972, Division TEACCH has coordinated the nation's largest statewide education and treatment program for children and adults with autism and related communication handicaps. With IDEA '97 (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997) emphasizing least restrictive settings, more people with autism and other severe behavior, learning and communication disorders are being served in an array of school and community settings. This has increased the need for comprehensive in-service training. Division TEACCH, a division of the Medical School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, provides training programs to teachers and other professionals from around the world.
Objectives
- To help parents and professionals understand the differences in how a child with autims thinks and learns.
- To help parents and professionals understand how these differences in thinking affects their child's behavior.
- To teach parents and professionals how to use Structured Teaching Strategies to help their child's behavior.
